Creation of effective tools for the protection of human rights in the activities of the National Police of Ukraine

According to the results of surveys and focus groups conducted by the ULAF, the majority of respondents perceive the National Police as a body designed to ensure compliance with human rights and freedoms. At the same time, the practice of the European Court of Human Rights demonstrates the opposite fact: human rights are most often violated by the police.

ULAF implements the following initiatives in the activities of the National Police of Ukraine:

  • implementation of a system of electronic accounting and video recording (Custody records) in the activities of temporary detention centers in order to strengthen the guarantees of the protection of detained persons against improper treatment;
  • implementation of a system of electronic information on rights by creating electronic access points (information terminals) for visitors to district police departments;
  • informing about rights by handing out information leaflets.
